MAEA - Modern Art Explorative Artistry

[ Previous / Next ]

This collection once again has two main foci; exploration, and art. To jump right in, Paths Up a Long Hill portrays what may be a hike, or an exploration of that hill. The presnetation of the mountain itself in this work is minimalist; it is entirely made out of inky negative space, with only its paths shedding any light. The atmosphere behind, however, is marvelous and grand, colorful without seeming easy; the background helps to give the impression of height to the work. Bringing more actual art into it, Launching from Artistry is rough and abstract, as well as multilayered. The foreground of the work is colorful, and serves as the launching platform for the black figure in the center; the background of the work has structure in its lines, but is relatively colorless and unmotivating. The small wisp of white in the center of the work, traveling down to the flower shape outlined in contours at the bottom-center of the image, is meaningful here. Crawling Into a Valley is also explorative, as well as concrete. The central figure here is well-defined in black, crawling between two yellow cliff walls and into the canyon characterized with a digital gray background. Whether the blue areas are representative of water, or whether they are strictly symbolic to the protagonist's personal struggle, is up to the viewer. Data Table is straightforward and fairly concrete, and uses its vibrant colors to make interesting a subject which might otherwise be borring. The table here has two columns and several rows, the black rectangle in the top-left corner designates where the title lines are. The actual data in the table is obscured to us, here, represented only by the color of the foreground in the implied space. And finally of note, my personal favorite work this week is Poke to Paint, which is fully trichromatic, representing all three of the primary colors in some capacity. The borders between colors are indistinct and poorly aliased, and the texture as a result is very smooth, and somewhat misty as one color fades into the next. It is the type of shading and color style that might be applied by paint, in the right order. Please enjoy!
