MMPA - Messy Modern Pixel Art

[ Previous / Next ]

As with previous pixel art collections, the works here are close-up images of areas of dead pixels. They are smaller-scale than most works, and largely absent of cracks. This collection in particular puts a spin by adding the theme "messy", either being disorganized in composition or unclean in subject matter. Orificial Plug is overtly suggestive, and extremely concrete. It's also very compositionally simple, a carefully-shaped area of black, ridged by some magenta highlights, against a bluish background with just a rough enough texture to imply uncleanliness. This is an effective, if not necessarily positive, work. Hole Yet to be Patched is similarly straightforward and concrete, a hole of black against a solid, consistent magenta and black-striped wallpaper. The background starts to dissolve as it fades into the hole, indicative of how the texture is broken. Psychedelic Streak is striking with its composition, a consistent and straight rainbowy aurora ghostily flowing behind an indistinct magenta figure that floats in the center of the image, hard to perceive against that background. This work is abstract, meaningful in a way that is difficult to truly define. Leaving Crumbs is simplistic, opting to stick to only one color for its background and another for its foreground, with a few magenta highlights to the mainly blue crumbs and scuffs against that rough yellow-gray background. The work overall feels casual, as though it's been left behind. But my personal favorite work this week is Sparsity, a unique work that takes the fragmented, sparse archetype used before in larger cracked works, and adapts them to pixel art. It is specific and well-composed, sharp and deliberate while still feeling arbitrary and random, and it's overall a very satisfying work. Please enjoy!
